All Day Kindergarten
Sacred Heart School is very pleased to be able to offer full day Kindergarten. This is an opportunity for your child to get off to a great start with their education. The classroom will have a classroom teacher and a full time aid throughout the school year. NOTE: Though it will be a full day, the Kindergarten curriculum and the amount of work for each student has not increased, only their time at school.
The morning class time will focus on the academic curriculum, such as Language Arts, Math and the Sciences. In the afternoon the academics will be less intensive and more social based, such as free play, centres, quiet time, art, gym and music. The Kindergarten students will spend this time in the classroom as well as other areas of the school. Being a K/1 class, the Kindergarten students will continue to have benefit of older students in the class to interact and play with, which greatly benefit each Kindergarten student and help them develop and succeed socially and academically.
Sacred Heart offers a positive, active and engaging learning environment and a sense of community to our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school at 250-563-5201.
All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten
By Robert Fulghum
Most of what I really need to know about how to live and what to do and how to be I learned in kindergarten.
Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain,
but there in the sand pile at Sunday school. These are the things I learned:
Don't hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don't take things that aren't yours.
Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life - learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together.
